Instructions on using the software for creating sentence linking activities

First create a text file of sentences, then open it from within 'sentence linking' and left click to match halves.  It is a simple piece of software which allows the teacher to write sentences in a text file and then have the software split them at random or in the place the teacher would like.

You first write the sentence e.g.,

'It took the ancient peoples more than ten centuries to create the magnificent Greek world.'

and place this sign "|" in the appropriate place.  So you get in the example,

It took the ancient peoples more than ten centuries|to create the magnificent Greek world.

In case it is not clear in the message this is the sign on the key next to the delete left arrow, top right.

You can also create gap fill texts by placing your own empty spaces and then writing the correct phrase to go in the space at the end of the sentence, divided from the sentence with the same sign, e.g.,

'It took the ancient peoples more than _________ to create the magnificent Greek world.'|ten centuries

The benefits of this software are clear.  It allows learners to try and try again until they get the answers all right.  The repetition itself is a learning process.  This is a natural characteristic of a computer which is not available in paper, because such a paper test can only be done once and the right and wrong answers are there to see.  Although this may be a common test exercise, there is no reason why it can’t be a learning exercise on a computer.
